Launch Notes: Planning For Your Successful Future...
That's Episode One pretty much in the bag! The theme? Thinking about the future (highly relevant at this point in the New Year!).

And a glorious morning 🌞😎 up on the Ashdown Forest to make a quick video about it...

Hello again! Jim Pirrie here with more thoughts about how someone without the opportunity yet to work with a coach can become an effective coach for themselves.

Now the launch date for the Nobody Needs A Coach podcast is set for the thirtieth of January, and I'm working on half a dozen or so launch episodes that will be available on Day One. So right now I'm pulling together a selection of topics that will, I hope, make an interesting and useful set of resources when the podcast goes live.

Episode One is pretty much finished, I'm pleased to say, and the theme is to do with clarity about the future.

Now we can't predict the future, of course! But what we can do is to think about the sort of career trajectory we would want for ourselves. And not just career trajectory, but life trajectory as well.

And I use the word trajectory quite deliberately, because I want to capture a sense of purpose and flow, yet with the unavoidable influence of chance and uncertainty.

Now I'm no golfer, but it is kind of appropriate that I'm up here now on the Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Course because when I think about the word trajectory one of the images it conjours up is a golf ball sailing smoothly through the air away from the tee.

Of course the person who has played the shot knows where they want it to end up, and the trajectory of a ball is pretty predictable, but nevertheless there's a huge element of uncertainty.

The point is that most people head into their careers without any thought of where they want to end up, or any notion of the trajectory they need to follow to get there. Or indeed any notion of how the game is played.

That's like turning up on the tee, putting the ball down and hitting in some random direction with a stick.

If you want to play the game, however, you need to do something different.

You need to know exactly where the green is. You need to understand the shots you need to play to get you there. You need to plan your first shot. You need to see in your minds eye the trajectory of that first shot so that you are best placed to take the second shot, and so on.

You also, of course need at least a rudimentary grasp of how the game is played, and to be equipped with at least one club!

And no matter how good a player you are, your shot won't always end up where you want it, so you need to adjust the plan along the way - sometimes even having to accept your ball is lost and start over with a new one.

But perhaps I'm in danger of stretching the analogy too far here!

The point is that it's the same with your career. If you don't know where you want to end up, you have no idea of the arc your career ideally needs to take to get you there. You have no idea how to equip yourself. And if you don't know what the game is then how can you hope to learn the rules?

As Henry Kissinger is quoted as saying, 'if you don't know where you are going, every road will lead you nowhere'.

I know people who have taken both routes. Some of those who had a clear trajectory in mind have been highly successful and influential in their chosen fields. Some have not sought that sort of success, but have preferred to build happy and fulfilled personal lives. Others have done both.

And that reminds us, of course, that it's not just about career. There's a much bigger, and more important picture around the trajectory you want your whole life to take, and your career is just part of that. An important part, perhaps, but not the whole story. How big a part of that story is up to you. It is, after all, your own story.

So Episode One is shares a powerful and practical way of thinking about the trajectory of your life and your career. A number of people have heard a preview and have actually said "I wish someone had explained this to me years ago!".

So I hope you enjoy it when it's released on January thirtieth! And I hope you find that it's something you can use in your own life and career.

I'd love to know your thoughts on this, so I'd be interested to hear about your own experiences.

So please share this and leave a comment, and in the meantime I'll sign off by wishing you every success in whatever you are doing, whatever that success might mean for you. Bye for now and I'll see you next time.

Launching 30 January 2023

I firmly and passionately believe that coaching is a positive, forward looking and intentional investment in your creation of a fulfilling, rewarding and successful future. But sometimes the time isn't right, or the financial resources aren't there, or the company won't fund it.

And that's why I created the 'Nobody Needs a Coach' podcast.

Because there's a lot you can do by yourself, on your own initiative — as long as you have the right information and encouragement to get you started and keep you going.

The 'Nobody Needs a Coach' podcast is for you if you're interested in coaching and committed to moving yourself forward in your life and career, but aren't in a place where working with a coach in person would work for you. Full of practical, down-to-earth, real-life ideas, strategies and tools that you can take away and use for real in your life and work, right now.

If that's you then pop your email in here and we'll keep you up to date...
